Corporal punishment was used in Greece , Rome , and Egypt for both judicial and educational discipline. Paradoxically, a significant number of us would condemn corporal punishment as barbaric and inhumane. Cultural perception of corporal punishment has rarely been studied and researched. As a study conducted by The Economist points out, American law makers are fond of attaching criminal sanctions to otherwise innocuous misdemeanours in order to appear tough on crime.
